Monday Update

October 4, 2010

Well, things are going slowly here in Wisconsin at Casa Denise. The packing is going well. It’s the sorting that
is making me crazy. The local charities have been having a field day with my leftovers. But it’s all taking forever.

Nobody can sort but me, so even though I have lots of help with the packing, I’m running from room to room making decisions.

As a consequence, I’m behind.

I have 1156 emails this morning–I haven’t checked them all weekend because I took it off to pack.

If you haven’t heard from me, don’t panic.

I’m just behind and crazed.

I’ve slotted time to catch up tonight, late.

So expect answers then.

Denise

Hang in there. I hope it’ll all be over for you soon! When are you actually slated to head to Texas?

Downsizing, moving states, starting a new career, representing brand-new clients, wading through the slush to find more. I really don’t think you’re challenging yourself enough here. Have you considered building a boat, or learning a new language? Might I suggest Sanskrit.

      LOL!

Sanskrit? PFTT!! She should try Hebrew or Japanese! With Hebrew she would need to learn not only a complicated language, but how to write backwards. And with Japanese, Denise would have to learn two alphabets and how to write backwards and upside down!

After Denise masters Japanese, she should try her hand at Sentinelese.

Or Latin. And learning to juggle while studying Latin.
And get a new puppy while you’re at it, the fussy, whiny kind that’ll keep you up all night.

perhaps she should learn to juggle fire? otherwise it’s just so pedestrian.

Maybe juggling puppies. With Latin names. Wait, is that cruel? OK, maybe teaching a puppy how to juggle. Or Latin.

jeff–gotta admit i like where your train of thought is going. at least the puppies themselves aren’t on fire. LOL.

See, Amanda, I wasn’t going ot go there with the flaming puppies. I thought, “This probably crosses some invisible line.” But I’m glad you charged ahead! LOL

Anyway, back to Denise. She must be a masochist, but I can’t help but tip my hat in admiration.

I know Latin already–majored in it in college.

Wow, that’s a lot of emails. I’m guessing that 10% number you mentioned earlier is looking a bit large at this point. Bet you didn’t think you’d have so many manuscripts to choose from.

  5. October 4, 2010 5:39 pm

I think we’ll all understand if you take longer than you thought you originally thought you would need to respond to everyone, especially with all the additional e-mails arriving. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself!

I said the same thing!! We rabid writers do want to know the verdict, but your health and sanity are more important than us. They just are!

Thanks for the update Denise. I know just giving updates takes time away from packing and getting work done. We really appreciate it.

Just curious. Under leave a reply it has name, email and website. Do you go to people’s websites/blogs if they have one? Can only you see it?

    • October 4, 2010 6:11 pm

Cynthia, If you put a website in the reply box, it makes your name in the comment a link to that site. It’s available to everyone. I’ve had fun taking a look at people’s sites. It’s pretty cool to see who everyone is.

No idea if Denise is clicking though, though! πŸ™‚

Sure I do. I’m nosey as a cat.

I can’t answer the question about whether or not she looks at them – but if you place a website address in the ‘website’ field, it turns your name into a hyperlink that anyone can click on. Clicking on mine, for example, takes one to my blog. πŸ™‚

I think everybody can see the websites–at least a lot of you seem to be clickng through to them.

Between all the packing, moving and donating and trying to stay on top of the queries & manuscripts you is one busy lady. I just hope you didnt accidentaly donate any of the full manuscripts you requested! LOL

  10. October 4, 2010 7:07 pm

Wow, you’re taking a ton of things on. Try and take a moment here and there and breathe and try and refocus. Don’t over due it. We want you in one piece πŸ™‚ I commend you on doing it all and wish you nothing but the best.

  11. October 4, 2010 7:11 pm

Wow. Is that over 1100 emails just over the weekend? How’s it feel to be so popular? Perhaps one day we writers will have inboxes with such numbers in fan mail ; )

  12. October 5, 2010 3:00 am

    1156? O.o

    Good luck with everything! πŸ™‚

    Hi Denise,
I have to say that I am guilty of one of those emails. (sorry). I sent a follow up email after you requested my manuscript and I hadn’t received a confirmation.

I hope you survive your move, I know when my wife and I moved ten years ago we both had our own houses and had to condense down to one. Talk about too much stuff and not a big enough house…..

    Good luck with everything,

    Paul

i think the main reason i wrote this book was because the universe felt i needed to learn patience.

so far, it’s not working out very well. 😦 and amazingly, obsessively checking my email ISN’T helping!

When I’m staring at my e-mail, trying to will a new message to appear in the inbox, impatience approaching neurosis, you know what I’ve found doesn’t help at all? Hitting refresh. Does nothing.

It may not do anything physically, mentally it makes you feel better because you’re doing something.

At least that’s what I’ve gleaned from the psych classes I’m getting a degree in >.<. It could be bull though :).

  15. October 5, 2010 9:58 pm

Hee, I’m loving all these comments – y’all have some serious snark (<—oxymoron?) going on! LOL

Denise – I think you're amazing, goodness! Moving AND tackling all these submissions. Superwoman, indeed. What I admire most is the go-get-'em attitude. I have to say, even if you don't end up becoming my agent (I know the odds are slim, with SO many submissions), your attitude has taught me about what I DO want in an agent someday – dedication, determination, and perseverance.

Best of luck to you in your search for new clients!! πŸ™‚

Oh man, you are BUSY. Wow. Thanks for the update, and good luck with all that sorting. πŸ™‚
